Native American Yupik Woven Lidded Basket-Purse - Hand Woven Basket

This is a wonderful vintage Hooper bay Native American Yupik Alaskan woven basket. A beautiful basket in the shape of purse. This medium weave lidded basket is woven from wild rye beach grass (taperrnat).  It is decorated with complex combination of geometric design and purple and red flower design tightly coiled, symmetrical and well balanced. It is 4.5” high by 23” in circumference. It is in excellent condition.

The natural grass has a nice golden patina acquired over 70 + years. Artist unknown. C.1950's
