Product Overview

The unique painting style of Yugeny Dobrin shines on this beautiful Kholui box. Here the artist has chosen to depict several recognizable moments from the fairy-tale “Father Frost” or “Morozko”. In the center of the composition Kovaleva has painted the girl who leaves the forest riding in the sledge pulled by the beautiful white steeds. She is dressed in rich clothes given her by Father Frost, and carries home the big chest full of precious stones also presented her by Father Frost.
Blue greenish tones of tempera paints dominate here as the action takes place in winter. The costumes of the characters, the architecture, the sledge, the harness of the steeds are skillfully detailed with gold and silver paints.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed, titled (“Morozko”) by the artist. Inside the lid. Approx.6"x6"x1.5".
