Product Overview

Very beautiful matryoshka by Marina Lutikova. She is from St. Peterburg. This is a very nice composition from the classic Russian fairy tale of the Firebird. The young hero tries to capture the firebird, but it escapes leaving him with only a tail feather. Beautiful detailed fine art quality five piece nesting doll. Glossy lacquer finish. The largest doll is approximately 7.5" tall. Signed by the artist.

In Slavic folklore, the Firebird (Russian: жар-пти́ца) is a magical glowing bird from a faraway land, which is both a blessing and a bringer of doom to its captor. The story of the Firebird quest has inspired literary works, including "The Little Humpback Horse" by Pyotr Yershov.
