The icon depicts the miraculous visitation of the Most Holy Theotokos to St. Sergius of Radonezh, the great 14th-century Russian abbot and founder of Trinity monastery. Inside the simple monastery cell where St. Sergius lived in humility and prayer, Mother of God stands in the center with one hand raised in greeting, with Apostles Peter and John to her left, St. Sergius in blue monastic vestment kneeling to her, and disciple St. Micah in the back. Above the main scene is a heavenly semicircle with Holy Trinity represented symbolically.
This icon measures 6.5" wide and 9.75" tall, decorative floral border is typical of late 19th-early 20th century.
