Description

This box is painted with a traditional winter scene of a troika (three-horse sleigh) racing through the snow with some Russian architecture in the background. This is one of the most popular Russian scenes, representing winter fun, youthful attitude, and happy holidays .In the composition the painter skillfully depicts the loving couple driving in the sledge. Fantastically beautiful, multi-colored horses with slender legs and swan-like necks are flying; their undulating tails and luxuriant manes are streaming in the wind; the flakes of snow are whirling and curling everywhere. The animals are very well detailed and the romance of the moment is very recognizable. The painting transmits the sensation of full speed, rhythm and incomparable joy.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged at top, and the box rests flat. Signed with the artist's name.

Approx. 5"x3.75x1.75".
