This large and beautiful piece is made from walrus tusk and features scrimshaw depicting a family of walruses. Scrimshaw is traditional Alaskan art of engraving bones and ivory, depicting wildlife and regional stories. You can see a beautiful, rare bluish ivory shade, which occurs due to the peculiarities of the soil composition in which the tusk was found. The piece is signed by the artist - George Vukson. George Vukson is Alaskan scrimshaw artist specializing in carving fossilized walrus and mammoth ivory, whalebone and antler, inspired by northern wildlife. The tusk with scrimshaw is mounted on a beautiful wooden base. The size of the tusk is approximately 14"x 3".
