Description

This small box is a creation of Galina Kuzmenko from the village of Palekh. Here she has painted a recognizable scene from the popular Russian fairy-tale "Tsar Saltan". The scene painted on the box's lid shows Princess Swan on a bank of the Sea and the Thirty-three Warriors with their Uncle Chernomor coming out of it.Red, green and blue tones of tempera paints predominate here. Various details are enhanced with gold and aluminum paint. Gold and aluminum are also used to decorate the box's exterior with elegant patterns.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. A hinge has been fastened to the left part of the top of the composition. The box rests flat. It is signed with the artist's name and village of Palekh. Approx size: 6'x5.25"x1".
