Product Overview
Palekh is a tempera painting village with traditions rooted in old icon painting schools, which were persecuted during the revolution. Having preserved the ancient ways of painting with fairy-tales, Palekh is one of three tempera workshops still currently functioning. This detailed Palekh composition was painted by a talented artist Alexander Kornilov.
The painting is based on the popular story of, "The Tale of the Dead Princess".
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name and Palekh school.
