This volume does a nice job of balancing historical information on the regional production centers (Sergiev Posad, Nizhni Novgorod, Semenov, Polkhovsky Maidan and Vyatka plus some regional workshops) and the "author's matryoshka" phenomenon that had just begun to emerge. The photos are lavish and the text informative.
