This beautiful lacquer miniature was created by Irina Tikhomirova of Kholui. This artist specializes in ornamental and floral compositions while using bright tones with realistic floral colors. In the center of this box is a beautiful butterfly with poppy flowers painted against black background. The flowers are painted in soft tempera paints and detailed with gold paints. This scene is framed with an intricate gold and red floral pattern.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name. The artist wrote her name, Kholui, and the title-"Peacock Butterfly" Approx. 4"x2.5"x1.25".
