Wonderful large ringed seal with baleen inlay eyes and spots on baleen base carved by Dennis Pungowiyi. Signed on the bottom. Absolutely gorgeous piece of AUTHENTIC Alaska Native artwork, only full-blooded Alaska Natives can carve on this material. Great collectors piece.
Measures 5.5" long x 2.25" wide (base), seal - 4" long, 1.75" wide.
The ringed seal is the smallest and most common seal in the Arctic, with a small head, short cat-like snout, and a plump body. Its coat is dark with silver rings on the back and sides with a silver belly, from which this seal gets its name.
