Lion, long regarded as King of the Jungle does not actually live in the jungle at all, but in the rich savannas of sub Saharan Africa. They live in large families or prides which can consist of up to 15 animals, whose roars can be heard for miles. In Christian tradition the apostle Mark is symbolized by the Lion, said to be associated with strength, assertiveness, power and courage. The Egyptians created the Sphinx with the body of a lioness to safeguard the pharaohs in their afterlife journeys.
