This box was painted by a talented Kholui artist Ivan Kovalev.
Here the artists have chosen to depict a scene from the timeless fairy tale of Cinderella, or Zolushka (it is the Russian version of the tale) tells about the poor and hard working girl who is rewarded in the end of the story for her kind heart and love to labor. The handsome Prince proposes marriage to her, and she becomes the Princess.
The composition is framed with rich golden ornamentation. The box is made out of paper-mache, and covered with black lacquer.The interior is painted red. The lid is hinged from the left of the composition and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is titled, signed by the artist.
