Catching the Firebird by Kovalev | Kholui Lacquer Box

This box was painted by a talented Kholui artist Ivan Kovalev.
The box shows a scene from the well-known Russian fairy-tale "Firebird". The box is features the major character from the tale of the "Firebird and Tsarevich Ivan" - Ivan and Fire Bird.
Here we can see Ivan catches the feather of the Firebird from it's tail.
The composition is framed with rich golden ornamentation. The box is made out of paper-mache, and covered with black lacquer.The interior is painted red. The box is hinged at the left of the composition, and rests on four round legs. The work is titled, signed by the artist.  Miniature painted in the traditional manner on the Mother-of-pearl background.
