Product Overview
This basket was handwoven by Carl E Hank. of Point Hope, Alaska. It is made of whale baleen and walrus ivory. The traditional art form of baleen basket weaving is shown in this exceptional specimen. The tight weave throughout, including the domed lid, is topped with a disk of walrus tusk inlaid into the black baleen around the rim, and finished with a carved walrus tusk figurine - seal. The starter base disk is signed by Inupiaq artist Carl E Hank. The basket is approximately 6" in diameter and 6" high.
