This is a wonderful example of Alaska native carving. Walrus ivory Whale hunter spirit carved by Ike Kulowiyi. He has carved the scene with incredible detail from a very creamy piece of walrus ivory. Ike Kulowiyi was born on December 16th, 1954. Born to a whole family of artists, Kulowiyi learned to carve from his grandfather Albert. Ike and his brother spend a good portion of the summer digging for old, fossilized walrus ivory around Savoonga.   Approx. 8" x 4" x 4".

Origin – Savoonga, St Lawrence Island, AL

Culture – St. Lawrence Island Yupik

Materials – Walrus Ivory, Whalebone, Walrus jaw bone.
