Product Description

This "Hawk" plaque carved by Matthew Baker. Matthew was born in 1966 of Squamish and Kwakiutl noble lineage. Growing up on the Capilino Reservation near Vancouver, British Columbia, Matthew learned the art of carving from his father, a member of the Coast Salish Nation. He began carving at the age of ten, and by the time he became and adult, he had gained such great style and skill that he came to be considered a professional artist in the tradition of his tribal heritage. His mother is a Kwakiutl from Alert Bay.  Matthew currently lives on the Sunshine Coast near Sechelt, British Columbia. His works, ranging from wall plaques and ceremonial masks to full sized totem poles, are in collections throughout Canada, in England, Europe, the United States, and Japan. The plaque is approx. 22.5" tall and 8" wide. Signed by the artist.
