WHALEBONE carving or sculpture is a rarity and regional to the Northwest and the Arctic. It is rarely found anywhere else. This fossil whalebone bear with a salmon in its mouth carved by Ron Ekemo. The fish is carved out of fossilized walrus jawbone. Ron was born in Cordova, Alaska 1949. Ekemo attended the Alaska Methodist University and the University of Alaska from 1968 to 1972. In 1972 Ekemo started Ekemo Studios, doing sculpting and carvings in ivory stone and fossil bone. Eventually moved in to Anchorage and in 1990 moved Ekemo Studios to Eagle River Alaska.
Approx. 7"L x 5"W x 5"H. This majestic little bear is an amazing piece of art, it would be an excellent addition to any home.
