This small box is a creation of Kuznetsova from the village of Palekh. Here she has painted a recognizable scene from the popular Russian fairy-tale "Tsar Saltan". Red, green and blue tones of tempera paints predominate here. Various details are enhanced with gold and aluminum paint. Gold and aluminum are also used to decorate the box's exterior with elegant patterns.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged and the box rests on four legs. Approximately 4" x 3.5" x 1.5".
