Product Description

This view of St.Petersburg has been painted by a talented Kholui artist Mikhail Mal'kov.  Here we can see the panorama of the Arrow of the Vasilievsky Island. The arrow is a small cape in a southeast part of the Vasilievsky Island, washed by the Big and Small Neva. The abundant usage of brown tempera paints helps to reproduce the atmosphere of St.-Petersburg. The scene is enriched by delicate gold paint added over the drawing, giving the work a magic glow. Aluminum paint is also used here but in very minimal amounts.
The lid is decorated with a fine golden scrollwork. The box's sides are decorated with gorgeous ornaments painted in gold and accented with aluminum.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene and the box rests flat. The work is signed with the artist's name, Kholui, and the title "St.Petersburg". Approx. 7"x2.5"x1.5".
